The new NIVEA EcoRefill hand sanitizer series includes a 100% recyclable and recyclable PET bottle that can be refilled by mixing water and cleaning tablets to produce hand sanitizer.

According to NIVEA, EcoRefill bottles are made of 100% recyclable and recyclable PET. This does not include the pump, which is not recyclable because it contains multiple components that cannot be separated and recycled.

In addition, the cleaning sheet is packaged in FSC-certified paper, which meets NIVEA's goal of reducing the use of fossil materials and promoting plant alternatives.

For consumers, the EcoRefill process involves filling the bottle with water up to the line indicated on the package. After adding and refilling tablets, the bottle should be closed with a pump and shaken for thirty seconds.

NIVEA added that although the dissolved EcoRefill label is reported to be strong enough to be used five minutes after adding to water, it may take up to five hours for the tablet to completely dissolve. According to reports, compared with the standard NIVEA liquid formula, the use time of this new refillable hand sanitizer is extended by 25%.

Then, the EcoRefill hand sanitizer bottle can be refilled with additional cleaning tablets and reused multiple times, and consumers can purchase it separately after purchasing the starter kit for the first time.

Currently, consumers can purchase NIVEA's EcoRefill starter kit with lemongrass soap, which includes a 250 ml bottle and a cleaning tablet. A pack of three cleaning tablets: lemongrass, cotton flower and hibiscus honeysuckle.

The EcoRefill hand sanitizer series is sold in 50 Tesco stores in the UK and on the NIVEA website. NIVEA plans to expand the launch of this series in 2022.
