The long-running Italian espresso machine brand Faema returns to the home coffee station with Faemina, a new single-group double-boiler machine.

The new model is completely different from the sturdy spring bar model named after the Faemina name since the 1950s. The new model has automated functions and is farther away from traditional roads by accommodating poured filter coffee.

Faemina has an onboard water reservoir that allows users to set different temperatures in order to serve teams or individual hot water taps. The built-in water softener can protect the internal parts of the machine and the purity of the beverage it produces.

In addition to espresso, one of the beverages can be filtered coffee. Users can place the pouring cone of their choice under the head, and then use the built-in touch screen or a dedicated mobile app to automatically dump the pouring cone. Adjustable variables include flowering stage, pause interval, water volume, and flow rate. The drip tray can be raised, lowered or removed to accommodate different cup and cone sizes.

"It can replicate all the necessary brewing stages; the user has full control," Maria Vittoria Rinaldi, the brand manager of the Faema Faemina project, told the Daily Coffee News. "All parameters are customizable. Faema hopes to provide its users with a coffee experience featuring diverse menus, from the highest-quality espresso produced by professionals such as coffee shops to automatic brewing options."

By removing the drip tray, the water tank can be accessed from the front of the machine, and the water tank can be refilled in place or by bringing it to the water source. A kit is also provided to connect the machine directly to the water pipe.

After celebrating the 75th anniversary of its diamond business last year, Faema, now a subsidiary of Gruppo Cimbali, continues to celebrate its past while leaning toward new machine technology and design.

While celebrating the 60th anniversary of its iconic E61 machine design last year, the company also introduced a new Faema President espresso machine with a modern appearance and a series of new features, updating another model that first debuted in the 1960s.

With the name of Faemina, the Milan-based company once again paid tribute to the past, reusing the name it once gave to the popular manual lever espresso machine that it made for home users in the 1950s and 1960s.

"Faemina is a technological machine with a lever, providing the most avant-garde technology of any coffee machine used in a home bar at the time," Rinaldi said. “Just like then, today’s Faemina positions itself as a high-quality product with its design and technology, bringing coffee shop-quality coffee to users’ homes. We deeply cherish traditions while constantly exploring and innovating. This is achieved in Faemina. It’s a manifestation."

The company stated that its new Faemina is expected to be available in the United States at the end of the first quarter of 2022, with a retail price of 4,500 Euros (approximately US$5,235 at the time of writing).
